Wildflower Meadow. 04

date.

2024

where.

South Yorkshire

This paddock area was turned into a wildflower meadow following scarification and seeding in the late autumn. A wildflower mix suitable for a clay soil was specified and a number of wildflower plugs were also planted, to grow alongside the seed mix. These included Filipendula sp., Geum rivale and Geranium sp. i.e. plants that will grow well in heavier and wetter soils. It is pictured below in just its first year of growth. In the following autumn a number of bulbs were planted for early interest. These included Camassia spp., Fritillaria meleagris and Scilla siberica, amongst others. Paths will be mown through the meadow each year allowing the clients to explore and in time they plan to add a shepherd's hut where they can sit, relax and read a book, enjoying the many flowers and insects that have taken up residence.
